Carey Thomson, MD, MPH

Dr. Thomson is an Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and the Chair of the Department of Medicine at Mount Auburn Hospital/Beth Israel Lahey Health. Dr. Thomson has extensive training and experience in implementation science, quality improvement, and population health. Dr. Thomson has a well-established track record of collaborating on guidelines for lung nodules and screening, interstitial lung disease, as well as converting clinical guidelines into usable clinical pathways for COPD, ILD, and other cardiopulmonary diseases. Dr. Thomson founded and directs the Multidisciplinary Thoracic Oncology and Lung Cancer Screening (LCS) Program at Mt Auburn Hospital. She is the Chair of the National Lung Cancer Roundtable Lung Cancer Early Detection Task Group, and sits on numerous scientific panels and committees at several national organizations. She has developed multiple implementation tools for LCS, including a business modeling tool, LUNGPLAN, and leads national efforts to incorporate Artificial Intelligence technology, and the electronic health record into care pathways for cardiopulmonary disease.​

As a B4 Advisor, Dr. Thomson will provide her expertise on the guideline-based approach to the management of pulmonary incidental findings and program implementation science.
